3PAR Halloween Tool Talk: Persistent Cache

3PAR Tool Talk: Vish Mulchand on Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy

Earlier this week, we announced our new Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy software.  It lowers the cost of long distance disaster recovery two ways:

1. Reduces communications costs by using lower cost asynchronous communications to a far away DR site while using a high-speed local or metropolitan link for synchronous copies.
2. Let's customers mix and match enterprise and mid-range arrays in the configuration.

3PAR Countdown: Resiliency with performance

All systems need contingencies - all the better if they can be built in. Unfortunately, failure mode and disaster operations usually means performance is sacrificed.  In today's world - especially if you are providing cloud services - degraded storage performance means you are going to have serious business issues to contend with too.

Today 3PAR announced three new capabilities for our arrays that maintain high performance levels for our storage systems should you experience a failure our outage. The full story is here:

What EMC thinks of as ease of use

Scott Lowe had an interesting post on Friday about creating metaLUNs that has attracted some interesting comments, which is where the best parts are. 

Given today's computing power, there is no need for stupid software contraptions like metaLUNs, they are a side effect of a dull architecture that puts the onus on the administrator to figure out what to do.  It's easy - just figure it out! 

3PAR InServ arrays automatically wide stripe data over all the drives in the system, without headaches or "weird science".  It's very simple for administrators and the performance is excellent - without requiring an army of professional services people, the way things tend to work with arrays from the Ever Mounting Costs company.
