Blogger Robin Harris stirred the pot again yesterday with his post on how the Phoenix of consumer technology: HD-DVD (China Blue) is going to eventually win the battle with Blu-Ray.
For me, I could probably care less except that I really, really want a cheap low cost, high-capacity sneaker net media for the videos that I make. YouTube, Vimeo Blip and the rest of the online video services are just OK for sharing videos, but they leave a lot to be desired in terms of video quality, network requirements and privacy. Regular DVDs are too small.
If China Blue were available today as cheap drive for my PCs I would definitely want it and encourage everybody to get it. I think its ridiculous to let Hollywoood dictate a format based mostly on piracy concerns - what about everybody else who wants to make their own videos - are we supposed to subsidize Sony for that?
FWIW, I use Sony Vegas, Sony Acid and Sony Sound Forge to make my videos and audios and I love those products and I recommend them to anybody who asks my opinion. I wish there was a better way for me to share the end results of these products than what there is today.
I got a 150TB BlueArc array you can have if you want, doesn't get much cheaper than that and you get a bonus of being able to heat the neighborhood in the winter.
Just need 6x208V 30A circuits, or lots more 120V, system isn't picky it swings both ways.

Thanks Nate, but it won't give me the portability that I want. I was hoping for something that my mother could use in her apartment and where I could send HD videos of our vacation escapades.
