I think I was the last to find out about today's rumor with IBM acquiring Sun. Lots of folks, like Chuck Hollis, think its just the natural winding down of an old dog, or sounding like two garbage trucks on a collision course, but I think it could be a very interesting play for IBM - as the boss of the beach in open source services. There is a lot of leverage with Sun customers in the service business. Ask Larry Ellison, if you can't get new technology or services businesses to grow your business, just buy an install base (Peoplesoft).
I also wonder what this would mean to Netapp's litigation with Sun. I would expect it to be resolved more quickly, but if ZFS were to live on, it would give Barry Whyte and Tony Pearson something new (yet again) to write about.
