Several viewers of this blog have remarked about the potential danger of driving while making videos. The steering wheel cam conference call that Stephen Foskett and I made to discuss storage innovation seemed to generate the most concern.
The Steering Wheel Cam Society of America (SWCSA) wants to re-assure viewers that no animals are hurt in the making of these videos and that we are operating our vehicles in a completely safe manner (except for Stephen who was using the considerably more risky dash cam.)
This video shows why operating a steering wheel cam is safer than operating a Prius. In fact, there are many things that are more dangerous than operating a steering wheel cam, such as crossing the street or working the drive through window .
I'm on the fence about steering wheel cam but I'm not on the fence about the infamous "Farley Crotch Shot" at 1:29 here:

A grateful world thanks you for wearing pants.

I'm concerned for your safety, Marc! The last thing I want to see is you wide striped down the highway. Or micro-RAIDed across the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Marc,
The SWCSA does not condone public service announcements featuring a particular brand of steering wheel cam.
The SWCSA also finds it "convenient" that your particular brand uses thin provisioning while simultaneously refusing to participate in industry standard steering wheel cam performance benchmarking.

Zilla-man - SWCSA doe snot (typo intentionally left in) approve or disapprove of wearing pants or shorts while operating steering wheel cam. Decency conventions for SWC today only apply to above the waist shots. Perhaps this needs to be looked at in a steering committee. (Added later in a momemt of - I wish I would have said this before but didn't think of it: Zilla-man - you're not supposed to look down there, its dangerous!)
Thanks Alex, I appreciate the image but if I were to Micro_Raid myself across the carrier deck, I'm sure the clean up crew would just spin me down in the foam below.
Steve, Did I mention the fact that I use Olympus (shock proof) and Casio (shock prone) digital cameras for my SWC shots? Because if I did, that would be a major screw up in the eyes of the SWCSA, as you pointed out. As for benchmarks, we will never ever participate in any steering wheel cam benchmarks of any kind because we don't want anyone to know what our secret salsa is! Keep SWCSA benchmark free!

I'm fed up by the unilateral and unconsidered pronouncements that come out of this vendor-led "standards body". As a proud independent, I assert and proclaim my right to do whatever I feel like, no matter how stupid!
Therefore, my next post will be shot with a hood ornament cam while I drive with my knees on cruise control while standing up and waving my hands wildly. I think this is no more risky than widespread deployment of thin provisioning technology in poorly-managed IT shops!

Oh sure Stephen! Everybody thinks they can just go out and create their own freaking (blank insterted here) Cam Society of America!
I suggest you call it the Waving Wildly at Hood Ornament Cam Society of America and Innuendo Spreaders of North America!

Is using a hands free steering wheel cam on a CA highway safer than talking on a cell phone?

What is in a Prius that makes you look "down there"?

The power cartoons, mileage calculation and that fun stuff.
