I thought this post by Virtual Geek a couple weeks ago was interesting. Benchmarks take a lot of resources and are difficult because there are so many variables and ways to interpret them. Still they fill a valuable purpose for many customers. In a performance benchmark, the idea is to show customers the best results for a given storage system and configurations are used to do just that.
My takeaway from Virtual Geek's post is that higher utilization levels are very important to him too - and we agree. Considering 3PAR's most recent SPC-1 benchmark was at 83% utilization of the volumes' exported storage capacity, we have simultaneously demonstrated optimal performance with real-world capacity expectations. The low cost per IOP in this benchmark was also excellent by the way, $9.30/SPC-1 IOPS™.
Altogether this benchmark shows an excellent mix of performance, capacity and cost.
